The Fat Burning Furnace Diet Plan was created by Rob and Kalen Poulos, a couple who lost weight with their own formula. It is a weight loss system for those who are tired of restrictive dieting and hours of exercise.

It teaches you how to increase your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) without overhauling your eating habits or exercising in excess. You change your body composition through a combination of high-intensity strength training with cardio to help increase your RMR, thus burn even more calories at rest and you don’t need to restrict calorie intake. No long sessions of cardio exercise on this diet!

How Do I Follow It?

The exercise component of the diet is the most important component. Poulos recommends weight training 3 times per week in as little as 20 to 30 minutes per day. It is full body workout of specific exercises that are to be performed in a very slow manner. Because the exercises are performed slowly, your muscles are worked harder therefore you only have to do 1 set of each exercise. Start with the “break in” routine and progress to beginner, intermediate and advanced workouts over the weeks as you get stronger.

The diet portion of the program focuses on micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) instead of macronutrients (protein, fat, and carbs). Stop measuring foods and pick foods that are nutritionally sound and packed with the right nutrients. It is recommended that you get your protein requirements from veggies, nuts, grains, etc and to restrict meat, sugar, alcohol and processed foods.

The e-book will cover other topics such as glycemic index, leptin, organic foods, and pH & alkalinity.


The program does have meal plans included along with email support. There are photos of the workouts to help guide you. You are given a tool to approximate the number of calories you require to stay in a fat burning mode. There is a senior guide and the diet works for vegetarians, and those who are gluten and lactose intolerant.


The biggest problem with this program is not encouraging more cardiovascular exercise. For health benefits, experts recommend at least 150 minutes a week of cardio such as brisk walking, biking or swimming. Also, Poulos repeatedly promotes his preferred multivitamin company which contradicts him stating that no pills/supplements are needed on this diet. Extra cost to purchase weights for some of the exercises if you don’t have a gym membership.
